Leeds Little Free Library
Little Free Libraries are beautiful little cupboards on sticks, decorated by artists, dotted throughout Leeds, inviting passers-by to “Take a Book, Leave a Book”.
The scheme, created by Carry Franklin, now has over 50 little libraries - lucky for me, mine’s one of them! When asked if I would paint a Little Free Library for a school I couldn't refuse, getting mucky on a large scale makes me happy. I got to paint the whole thing, from priming right through to varnishing - I even helped dig the hole it was going in!
Given a free reign with the design (although the black background was essential), I chose a limited colour palette to create a streetscape with Leeds landmarks and a few monsters hidden in amongst them. Very educational!
